My name is James Thornton, and I am the Founder, CEO, and Course Director of Safety Train. Before starting this company, I spent 8 years as an operational firefighter, where I gained invaluable experience responding to emergencies and saving lives. During that time, I became a trauma instructor, teaching fellow firefighters how to handle trauma incidents effectively. This role ignited my passion for First Aid and pushed me to pursue excellence in training and education.

I founded Safety Train with one clear goal: to deliver the highest quality First Aid training to organizations of all sizes. My mission is not just to meet industry standards but to go above and beyond, empowering individuals with the skills and confidence to save lives.

For personal growth and practical insight, I’ve also worked alongside London’s HART (Hazardous Area Response Team), gaining firsthand experience in high-pressure, life-saving situations. These experiences drive my commitment to providing real-world, practical training that makes a genuine difference.

Beyond my professional life, I am also a proud new father, which has given me an even deeper appreciation for the importance of safety and preparation in all aspects of life. This personal milestone further fuels my dedication to creating safer workplaces and communities.

My name is Lee Digweed, and I am the Educational Lead at Safety Train. After nearly 20 years of operational experience responding to emergencies and managing traumatic incidents, I decided to take on a new challenge by joining the Safety Train team.

Throughout my career, I’ve not only dealt with high-pressure situations but also dedicated time to educating apprentices, helping them develop the skills and confidence needed for success. Joining Safety Train felt like a natural progression—a perfect opportunity to combine my practical experience with my passion for teaching.

I fully believe in the ethos of Safety Train and the mission that James Thornton started: to deliver the highest quality First Aid and Fire training while making a real difference in people’s lives.
